Major Activities under the Project

a) Celebrating International Day for Girl Child: the organization has planned to celebrate International Day for Girls Child’ on October 11th, 2019 with the greater participation and solidarity among like-minded organizations of the district. On this day, the organization comes on the street with a rally demonstrating placards that have messages against child marriage, unsafe abortion, early unions and importance of girl child education. At the end a petition letter is submitted to Municipality to make them more responsible to act to protect, promote, respect, and fulfill the fundamental rights of women and children.

b) SRHR training to the young people (including young boys): 50 women and young girls are invited to a 2-day training on SRHR. In the training, the young girls develop skills and knowledge to be a community SRHR advocate. After the training the participants hold peer learning classes on SRHR.

c) Training on street theatre: With the support of Gadimai Natya Kala Kendra, 10 women advocates including young boys take part in street theatre training. After the training, these young advocates demonstrate street theatre covering the issue of negative consequences of early marriage.

d) Street theatre demonstration: After the training, the young advocates demonstrate the street theatre at 5 different locations of Mahagadhimai municipality. After the performance, they also collect the feedback as well the increased level of knowledge against dowry, early marriage, early unions, unsafe abortions etc.

e) Sensitization meetings with local leaders: The organization conducts one meeting with local leaders such as local political and social leaders, representatives of cooperative groups, user committees. These meetings are targeted to sensitize them so that they may be supportive to reduce early marriage and increase girl child education by developing agendas and implementing programs through their organizational meetings.

f) Sensitization meetings with teachers and School Management Committee representatives: Teachers are the frontline actors of the society who can play a pivotal role by providing appropriate knowledge about the negative impacts of early marriage, early unions among the students. Therefore, the organization organizes sensitization meetings with teachers and members of SMC in 5 schools of Mahagadhimai Municipality.

g) Meetings with municipality representatives: the organization conducts one meeting with the representatives of Mahagadhimai Municipality to seriously take action against child marriage, school dropout, early unions, unsafe abortions, SGBV and other forms of violence and abuses those women are facing.

h) Orientation with municipality representatives: the organization has planned to organize orientation to the municipality representatives on ‘Safe Motherhood Policy and and Penal Code of Nepal 2074. This one day orientation contributes the leaders to strictly follow and implement the legal provisions set by the Government of Nepal
